Tom started with Hencken & Gaines in the summer of 1982. After graduating from Washington College in Chestertown in 1986, Tom began work at Hencken & Gaines full time starting as an Assistant Superintendent then working through the office as a Project Manager, Estimator, and Vice President. Tom took over full responsibility of the firm in 1997 when he succeeded Victor E. Hencken III as President. Beyond the day to day management responsibilities of the firm, Tom is extremely involved with providing pre-construction services on many of the firms projects. In addition to being President of Hencken & Gaines, Tom is the CEO of solargaines, a renewable energy company. Tom is a current Trustee of the Boys’ Latin School of Maryland and is a former board member of the Baltimore Building Congress and Exchange. His proudest achievements are his three children: his two sons are graduates of Drexel University and his daughter is currently attending York College in Pennsylvania.
